Hack Alert: Murfreesboro Medical Clinic

MMC has been closed for several days following a debilitating attack on its technology infrastructure.

Unseen patients, huge third-party cybersecurity bills, revenue losses potentially in the millions of dollars, and a public relations fiasco are just some of the devastating results.

“Preserving sensitive patient and employee information is of the utmost importance to MMC, but like so many other organizations around the country and despite its best efforts, MMC has found itself as the target of criminals attempting to steal personal or company data.  I want to thank our patients and employees for their understanding and patience while we work to make sure our computer infrastructure is secure and free of any harmful software.”

Joey Peay, CEO, Murfreesboro Medical Clinic

While full results of the breach have not yet been released, when an organization as large as MMC is forced to pause operations for multiple consecutive days, we can only assume that this was a very serious attack. Some potential causes of the prolonged production outage may be widespread ransomware like the very recent attack on the City of Dallas, inadequate disaster recovery solutions, or a host of other failures.
